A setback to Elon Musk’s Neuralink Project

In the United States, a complaint has been filed against Elon Musk about the “extreme suffering” suffered by primates during the tests of his brain implants. Only 7 of the 23 monkeys are still alive. According to the report published in the American newspaper, out of the 23 monkeys in which the ‘Neuralink chip’ was installed for testing, about 15 monkeys have died. These monkeys were chipped at the University of California Davis between 2017 and 2020.

In fact, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Group (PCRM), which fights for animal rights, studied more than 700 pages of documents and other records. After this it was revealed that the monkeys in which the chip was implanted were affected with weak health effects. This organization claims that it has recovered hundreds of pages of records on experiments conducted by the University of California-Davis where Neuralink operates their primate research center. In his records, autopsies and veterinarian reports show brain implant testing on monkeys is done illegally, causing “extreme suffering due to inadequate animal care and experimental head implants.” highly invasive during the experiments”. The report also said that the Neuralink chip was inserted through a hole in the skulls of monkeys.

This caused a blood infection and he died. A monkey started vomiting continuously due to which it died. The autopsy report states that the monkeys had suffered brain haemorrhage.

Neuralink project was started in 2016

The Neuralink project was started in the year 2016. It is designed with the aim of helping people recover from serious brain and spinal cord injuries. It has also been said that apart from connecting people to the Internet, it can cure depression and mental health disorders.

In April 2021, Elon Musk boasted of having succeeded in getting a monkey to play the game “Pong”, but these revelations clearly discredit his project, and it is hard to imagine to perform the same experiments on humans. On the side of the university laboratory, it is assured that these experiments were in compliance with “all applicable laws and regulations, including those of the United States Department of Agriculture”.
