According to sources, Apple is set to introduce a new OLED iPad Pro in 2024. The company is planning to release a 10.9-inch iPad Air and a new 12.9-inch version of the iPad Air next year. While the 12.9-inch version won’t incorporate the mini-LED display present in the Pro model, it will feature an oxide backplane.
Predictions from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicate the unveiling of two M3 models of the iPad Pro in the upcoming year. Both models are expected to shift from the mini-LED display to an OLED display and adopt the iPhone 15 Pro’s LTPO backplane. Additionally, Kuo foresees the launch of the 11th generation of the standard iPad and a new iPad mini in the latter half of the year.
Kuo attributes a decline in iPad demand to the return of employees to offices and changes in user behavior, where the device is now used for both entertainment and productivity. Despite this decline, Apple‘s projected iPad shipments for 2024 range from 52-54 million units, a slight increase from the 50 million in 2023 but significantly less than the 63 million iPads shipped in 2022.
In terms of improvements to the iPad Pro, Kuo echoes sentiments from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who reported in August that the tablets may feature a revamped Magic Keyboard with an enlarged trackpad, enhancing the tablet’s functionality as a laptop replacement. While Kuo initially suggested a Q1 2024 release for the new iPads, Gurman indicates a likely launch around March.
