ChatGPT Experiences Second Major Outage in June

ChatGPT experienced a significant outage this afternoon, marking the second major disruption for the chatbot in June.
“We are currently investigating elevated error rates impacting ChatGPT,” OpenAI reported in a message posted at 11:39 AM Pacific Time. The cause of the outage is still under investigation.
Users worldwide have reported issues accessing the tool. “Should I submit PTO? I hate working without ChatGPT,” commented one Reddit user. Another user speculated, “Please let this be the voice update,” referring to the anticipated launch of Voice Mode for the GPT-4o model.
Not all users may be affected by the outage, and the number of reported incidents is decreasing, according to Downdetector.com (owned by PCMag parent company Ziff Davis).
Recent ChatGPT Outages
The previous major outage occurred on June 4, with OpenAI quickly addressing the issue before another disruption followed a few hours later. In May, ChatGPT faced intermittent outages and service delays over a four-day period.
Over the past 90 days, ChatGPT has achieved a 99.42% uptime, according to OpenAI’s status page. This is the lowest reliability among the four services tracked by OpenAI. “99.4% really isn’t very good for what’s become a business-critical tool for so many,” remarked one X user.
