“Circle to Search” Feature Coming to Google Chrome on Desktop
Google’s innovative “Circle to Search” feature, introduced with the Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 in January, is now expanding to desktop platforms. Originally available on the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and older Samsung devices, this visual search functionality is being rolled out to Chromebooks and Chrome on desktop.
According to 9to5Google, the desktop version is called “Drag to Search” to accommodate non-touchscreen laptops. This feature is integrated with Google Lens, allowing users to perform visual searches directly from their browsers.
On Chromebooks, a Lens icon will appear in the address bar for easy access. Mac and Windows users can utilize “Drag to Search” by selecting the “Search with Google Lens” option from the three-dot menu in Chrome.
To use this feature, users can select or drag a portion of an image into the search bar. Google will then conduct a visual search and display related results in a side panel. For quicker access, users can pin the “Drag to Search” option to the side panel.
Currently, this feature is available in the ChromeOS 127 beta and Chrome 128 beta versions. As noted by 9to5Google, since it’s mentioned in the “What’s new in Chrome” page, it is expected to be included in the stable release soon.
