Google announces the new Pixel 7 and 7 Pro with a focus on Photography

After giving  a first look at its smartphones last May, Google held a conference today to announce the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. These new smartphones have Google’s own DNA, and their design is not very different from the Pixel 6.

Inside, these Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have the new generation of Google’s own processor, the Tensor G2. However, the company emphasizes its photographic section, a faster and smarter Google Assistant, and above all, a more efficient equipment.

This new chip basically works on the same core layout as the previous model, but with a 4nm manufacturing process, which is more efficient. This should improve performance by limiting power consumption, which should (in theory) improve battery life.

As for the specs, the Pixel 7 Pro has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display that claims to be QuadHD with a variable refresh rate from 10 to 120Hz. The Pixel 7’s screen is 6.3 inches with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Both offer a 25% higher peak brightness compared to the Pixel 6. The two new smartphones also offer standard (non-3D) facial recognition. We can also mention 5G and Wi-Fi 6E support.

There are 128 and 256 GB of storage, and if the regular model has “only” 8GB of RAM, the Pro model has 12GB of RAM. Please note that available capacities may vary by country.

The phones also get three years of major Android updates and five years of security updates. They don’t run Android 13 out of the box, and Google offers its VPN to all owners of these new phones. But that will be available for later and not at launch.

And the battery? The Pixel 7 has a 4355mAh unit. so that the Pro model has a 5000mAh unit.

However, it is in the photographic section that Google wants to stand out, not so much in its configuration, but in the processing and computational photography. Features such as true tone processing for skin tones, blur reduction in photos, night photography (half exposure time), 10-bit HDR, autofocus and video stabilization have been improved. Google also offers a new cinematic blur mode, which allows you to get a effect in video.

There’s even a 50MP main photo sensor, with improvements as well. The Super Res Zoom feature improves to have x2 zoom with 12.5MP photos. The Pixel 7 Pro also has a telephoto lens that will do a similar 5x zoom treatment, and that will allow full zoom up to 30x.

Pricing and Availability Google Pixel 7

Unfortunately, Google phones are not officially sold in the domestic market. However, the regular model is available for pre-order from today for €649 with a pair of Pixel Buds Pro headphones.

In turn, the Pixel 7 Pro is available for €899, and those who buy it will receive the new Pixel Watch (in its Wi-Fi version) completely free of charge.

The marketing of the 2 smartphones will start on the 13th of October.
