Google unveiled its latest advancements in AI during the presentation of the Google Pixel 8 series and Android 14. In line with this, the company introduced a new system app named AI Core, designed to enhance upcoming machine learning capabilities on devices operating on Android 14. This month marks the release of the initial AI Core update specifically tailored for the Pixel 8 Pro.
As described in the Google Play Store, AI-powered features operate directly on the device utilizing the latest base models. To ensure the longevity of these intelligent features, the device autonomously updates the AI models. The AI Core system application takes charge of managing these updates, extending AI capabilities to various other applications.
The information page of the app highlights “Additional in-app settings,” featuring a distinctive “Enable Persistent AI Core” button that, when activated, allows AICore to optimize memory usage and operate persistently. Notably, this option remains deactivated by default.
The rollout of this inaugural update is facilitated through the Google App and is applicable to all Pixel 8 Pro devices running stable or beta versions of QPR1 and QPR2. It’s worth mentioning that the Google App code presently lacks references to the Google Pixel 8 or preceding Google devices.
