Google’s Innovative Image Generation Feature in Search: Creating Visuals with SGE

Google is introducing a interesting feature within its Search Generative Experience (SGE) that enables users to create images. Following in the footsteps of Bing, Google has unveiled an update to its SGE, demonstrating the ability to generate images directly from search results and Google Images on its blog.
To access this feature, you’ll need to join the SGE beta program and be at least 18 years old. Although Google has recently expanded SGE to younger teens, this particular feature won’t be available to them just yet.
You can create an image by initiating a search with prompts like “draw a…” or “sketch a…”. Google claims that the feature is currently accessible, although we were unable to get SGE to produce images using those prompts during our testing. However, once you get it to work, the possibilities are virtually limitless.
However, it’s essential to note that Google has implemented certain restrictions. You won’t be able to generate photorealistic images of faces or well-known individuals, and prompts that violate Google’s prohibited use policy for generative AI won’t yield results. Nevertheless, some individuals may attempt to circumvent these safeguards. Google also ensures that all images generated by SGE will carry metadata labels and embedded watermarks, indicating that they originated from an AI source.
Moreover, the ability to generate images is now available in Google Images. While browsing through images, you might come across prompts that encourage you to create something based on your search terms. This is more likely to occur when searching for inspirational concepts like “spooky ideas for Halloween” than when seeking something highly specific, such as character art from your favorite television show.
In addition to image generation, SGE has expanded its capabilities to assist you in drafting content. For instance, if you search for a query like “converting a garage to an office space” and find a suitable contractor, SGE can assist by composing an initial email to initiate the project.
