Nutritionist Jayshree Sharad recently mentioned the benefits of Vitamin C in an Instagram post. He told that this nutrient prevents hyperpigmentation. Also, it protects the skin from the negative effects of UV rays. Due to this our DNA is repaired and skin wounds heal quickly.

 

Dr. Sharad says that men should take 90 mg and women 75 mg vitamin-C daily. According to him, adults need to take up to 1000 mg of Vitamin-C during the time of pigmentation and other skin related diseases.

 

According to other studies, pregnant women should take up to 85 milligrams of vitamin-C daily and women who are breastfeeding 120 milligrams.

 

Natural sources of Vitamin-C

 

If Dr. Sharad is to be believed, then Orange, Lemon, Kiwi, Pineapple, Cherry, Blueberry, Papaya, Tomato and Broccoli have the highest Vitamin-C. Apart from these, this nutrient is also found in guava, milk, beet, cabbage, amla, turnip, radish leaves, dry grapes and capsicum.

 

Symptoms of Vitamin-C Deficiency

 

Dryness in the skin, bleeding gums, lack of blood in the body, taking longer to heal wounds, dry hair, reduced immunity, joint pain and weakness in teeth are the symptoms of vitamin-C deficiency. As soon as such problems occur, you should increase the amount of vitamin-C in your diet.

 

Vitamin-C in excess can be dangerous

 

Consuming excessive amounts of Vitamin-C can prove to be harmful. This can increase iron in the body. In addition, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, and trouble sleeping may also occur.
