Meta, formerly Facebook,  presented its vision of the Metaverse on VivaTech 

Every year, Viva Technology puts the latest technologies in the spotlight. This year, among all the technologies covered, of particular interest is the decryption of Web3, the true potential of the coming years. This year, among all the technologies discussed, special interest is shown in the decryption of Web3, the real opportunity in the years to come. Web3, the new generation of the web, uses blockchain technology, unlike Web2 which is based on social networks. Gartner estimates that by 2026, 25% of people will spend at least an hour a day on the Metaverse for work, shopping, education, social media, and/or entertainment.

 

Companies are arming themselves: the big players in video games, the big players in technology, but also the big brands who don’t want to miss the train, said Eric Hazan, partner at AFP. McKinsey, on the occasion of this exhibition VivaTech  dedicated to digital technology, which opened in Paris on Wednesday.

 

According to a study by this firm, investments in technologies paving the way to the metaverse have already reached more than $50 billion in 2021 and could more than double this year. We have quite colossal amounts, three times more than investment in artificial intelligence in 2017 according to Mr. Hazan Show customers real or virtual events remotely. It’s a metaverse that frees you from the constraints of time and space, Stephan Emanuely, head of IT services at Louis Vuitton, told AFP.

 

Trying on and then buying clothes with your VR headset is possible thanks to virtual shopping for more immersive and interactive experiences. Nana, Adobe Stock LVMH also welcomes DressX, a start-up that offers to buy and try on virtual clothes, which can therefore only be worn on a photo or an avatar, for example for the very popular gaming platform Roblox. Others see the virtual world as an opportunity for a communication operation, such as BNP Paribas, which is expanding its stand thanks to Spatials metaverse, or the French restaurant voucher specialist Edenred, which is presenting its vision of 10 years in virtual reality (VR) to an employee who uses the company’s entire range of services.

 

Without VR, we would have shown a phone screen, the group told AFP. Adecco, one of the world’s leading temporary workers, is instead trying to find solutions to innovate in its core business. For example, an experiment enables the company to put future recruits in a real 3D work environment that has been pre-recorded by its customers with 360-degree cameras. This can, for example, assess the ability to work at height in a gondola, Camille Mulquin, head of marketing at start-up Uptale, told AFP. Virtual co-op space But in the end everyone has developed their own universe without benefiting much at the moment from shared immersive platforms like The Sandbox or Decentraland, where however the sale of virtual land, the subject of significant speculation, has already exceeded 500 million dollars.
