Microsoft is ramping up its push into everyday AI with a fresh batch of generative AI tools built directly into Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad for Windows 11 users. These features are currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders on the Canary and Dev Channels, with some capabilities exclusive to Copilot+ PCs and those subscribed to Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro.

AI-Powered Stickers in Microsoft Paint

If you thought Paint was a thing of the past, think again. Microsoft is breathing new life into the classic app with AI-generated stickers. On a Copilot-compatible device, users can now type a prompt—like “robot dog in space” or “cat wearing sunglasses”—and Paint will instantly generate unique stickers based on that description.

To try it:

  • Open the Copilot menu in Paint

  • Click on Sticker Generator

  • Type your prompt and hit Generate

All your creations will be saved under the new Stickers tab in the toolbar. This adds to Paint’s growing list of AI features, including background removal, layers, and generative erase—which are available to all users.

Smarter Screenshots with AI in Snipping Tool

Editing screenshots is about to get much easier with a feature called Perfect Screenshot. When activated, it uses AI to intelligently crop and resize your snip based on what’s important in your selection.

To enable it:

  • Use the Snipping Tool to select a region

  • Hold down Ctrl while selecting to activate the AI-assisted crop

This feature is also limited to Copilot+ PCs.

AI Text Generation in Notepad

Writing directly in Notepad just got a major upgrade. With the new Write with AI feature, users can generate text, rewrite content, or expand ideas simply by entering a prompt.

Here’s how it works:

  • Place your cursor where you want new text

  • Right-click and choose Write, or press Ctrl + Q

  • Enter your prompt in the dialog box

  • Click Send to view AI-generated text

You can choose to keep the content, discard it, or refine it further with additional prompts. Note: this feature requires an eligible Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro subscription and enough AI credits

Requirements & Availability

These AI features are currently being tested in the Windows Insider Canary and Dev Channels. Some require Copilot+ PC hardware and/or a Microsoft 365 subscription with active AI credits

Microsoft is clearly aiming to make AI a core part of the everyday Windows experience—from creating visuals in Paint to drafting quick notes in Notepad. While some features remain limited to premium users and devices, the direction is clear: AI is becoming an integrated assistant in every corner of Windows 11.
