Mozilla Uses AI Tool to Detect and Fix 271 Firefox Vulnerabilities

Mozilla has revealed that it used an experimental AI model from Anthropic, called Mythos Preview, to identify and patch 271 security flaws in its latest Firefox 150 release. While there’s ongoing debate about how artificial intelligence will reshape cybersecurity, Mozilla believes the long-term impact may not be as disruptive as some fear - though the transition period could be challenging for developers.

According to the Firefox team, integrating AI into their workflow wasn’t simple. The tool surfaced a large volume of potential vulnerabilities, requiring significant effort, resources, and discipline to review and address them effectively. However, the company sees this as a necessary step to strengthen user security, especially since similar AI capabilities are likely to be used by malicious actors in the near future.

Mozilla’s approach highlights a growing reality in cybersecurity: AI can accelerate both defense and attack strategies, and adapting early may be key to staying ahead.
