New Ad Types Appear on Google TV and Android TV

Google TV, that is, the evolution of Android TV, is present on some televisions and on some TV Boxes. Users can install various apps through the Play Store, including streaming services such as Netflix. Advertising is also present on the homepage, but now there is an evolution.

When Google launched the first ads on Android TV in 2020, the ads were framed as content recommendations, showing only movies and series available on TV through various streaming services and applications.

Things changed in 2021 when Google TV and Android TV started showing ads for movies in theaters, starting with Marvel’s Shang-Chi. Since then, this initiative has continued and extended to the trailers of upcoming films in cinemas, but always depending on the country.

Users in different countries reported seeing different ads. An American user reported seeing an ad for Chrysler on his Sony TV with Android TV. A Canadian user reported seeing an ad for Tim Hortons. It is possible that this also occurs in other countries, but it has not been confirmed.
