OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Pro: Premium AI Access at $200/Month
OpenAI has announced a new premium subscription for its AI chatbot, ChatGPT Pro, priced at $200 per month—ten times the cost of its existing ChatGPT Plus plan. This was unveiled during the company’s “12 Days of OpenAI” campaign, a series of live demos and product launches. The Pro plan offers the most extensive access yet, featuring unlimited use of OpenAI’s advanced models and tools, including o1, GPT-4o, and the recently introduced Advanced Voice feature.
A standout feature of the Pro subscription is “o1 pro mode,” a highly advanced version of the o1 model, designed for tackling complex science and math problems with greater accuracy and reliability. Compared to the o1-preview model previously available to paid users, the full o1 model—now standard for all ChatGPT Plus and Pro users—makes 34% fewer major errors and processes information 50% faster. The o1 pro mode takes this further by using additional computing power to improve reasoning and response reliability, consistently outperforming other versions in benchmarks.
Pro subscribers can select models directly via a toggle and monitor a progress bar as the system processes their queries more deeply. OpenAI has also promised future updates to enhance Pro’s capabilities for computationally intensive tasks. However, as of now, subscription options for the Pro plan are not yet visible on the ChatGPT website, which still lists only the Plus and Teams plans.
