PlayStation VR2 pre-sales far below what Sony expected

PlayStation VR2 pre-sales are not going as expected by Sony, which is forcing the company to reduce its projections for its launch. According to what is being revealed by Bloomberg, the company had planned to sell 2 million units during the quarter of its launch, but weak demand made the company cut that number in half, that is, 1 million.

After what are claimed to be disappointing pre-order numbers, Bloomberg’s sources say Sony’s shipment forecasts have been halved. Sony reportedly told a supply partner that it expects a reduction in the number of display panel orders and expects to ship around 1.5 million headsets in the 11 months between April 2023 and March 2024.

For those who don’t know, the PlayStation VR2 will see the light in less than a month, February 22 to be exact, and will cost 599.99 euros. There is also a package that costs 649.99 euros and that includes a Horizon: Call of the Mountain code.

If we add those 649.99 euros to the 549.99 euros that the PlayStation 5 costs, and which is essential to use the headset, then we are facing a “bundle” that costs 1199.98 euros… a very high value indeed.
