Qualcomm Highlights Its Vision for Arm-Based Windows PCs at Computex 2025

At Computex 2025 in Taiwan, Qualcomm made it clear: it’s serious about transforming the Windows PC landscape. Known primarily for its dominance in smartphones, the U.S.-based chipmaker used the event to highlight its progress in bringing Arm-based processors to laptops — an arena long controlled by Intel and AMD.

“We’re here to stay in the PC market,” said CEO Cristiano Amon during the keynote address. He emphasized that since launching Snapdragon X-powered Windows laptops, the company has seen significant momentum. Over 85 device designs are either already available or currently in development, with Qualcomm aiming to surpass 100 models by next year.

According to Amon, Microsoft initially approached Qualcomm seeking a way to revitalize Windows performance and innovation — a subtle dig at the longstanding x86 architecture led by Intel and AMD. Now, Qualcomm is expanding its PC efforts beyond consumers, targeting business and enterprise customers as well.

Amon also highlighted how artificial intelligence is becoming deeply integrated into the user experience. He suggested that AI will evolve into a foundational layer of computing — as essential as the operating system itself.

Snapdragon X chips are engineered for performance, battery efficiency, and AI-driven tasks, positioning them as strong contenders not just against Intel and AMD, but also Apple’s M-series chips. However, the transition to Arm in the Windows ecosystem hasn’t been without challenges, particularly around software compatibility.

To that end, Amon showcased major strides in native Arm app support. “There are now 1,400 games optimized for Snapdragon devices, and we’re collaborating with leading game studios,” he said. Fortnite, for example, is set to join the platform soon. He added that users now spend 93% of their time using native apps, with only limited reliance on emulation for legacy x86 programs.

Throughout Computex, Qualcomm and its partners are unveiling a new wave of Snapdragon-powered Windows laptops. Expect more announcements and demos as the event continues.
