Recently, Samsung has filed patents for terms such as “AI Phone” and “AI Smartphone” as part of a strategic move to emphasize artificial intelligence, especially in their upcoming flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series.

As highlighted by GalaxyClub, it’s important to note that these applications are currently in the receipt stage and await approval from both the EUIPO and UKIPO. Consequently, there is no assurance that Samsung will be granted trademarks for either term, especially considering their generic characteristics. Nevertheless, these filings come shortly after Samsung revealed additional AI features for upcoming Galaxy smartphones, underscoring the company’s commitment to incorporating ‘AI’ as a pivotal term in their smartphone marketing strategy.

The Galaxy S24 is unlikely to be branded as an “AI Phone” to avoid sounding too much like an “iPhone.”

If the latest information is accurate, the Galaxy S24 series will leverage artificial intelligence for various tasks, including real-time translation of messaging apps, with a particular emphasis on enhancing photography and video capabilities.

However, it now appears that the purported slogan “AI Phone” will not be used for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. The exact reasons have yet to be confirmed, but it seems that the “AI Phone” label may not fully convey the relevant technological advancements and user experience associated with the Galaxy S24 series. Additionally, using “AI Phone” might draw unwarranted associations with the term “iPhone.”

The exact reasons behind Samsung’s alleged opposition, led by Lu Taiwen, to the “AI Phone” slogan remain unknown. Still, it seems likely that he has instructed employees to devise alternative names that better capture the essence and capabilities of the artificial intelligence in the upcoming flagship smartphone.

With rumors hinting at a phone launch in approximately one month, on January 17, 2024, the clock is ticking for the South Korean giant, although this date has not been officially confirmed.
