Samsung Teases Its First Trifold Galaxy Z Smartphone in Korea

Samsung offered a sneak peek at its long-anticipated trifold Galaxy Z smartphone during an event in South Korea this week, marking the company’s first public hint at the innovative device.
According to attendees, the phone unfolds to reveal a large 10-inch display and folds back into a compact—though somewhat thick—smartphone form. However, the trifold wasn’t demonstrated live. Instead, Samsung displayed two prototype units behind glass—one folded and one fully opened—while an animation projected onto the glass showcased the device transitioning through its three possible configurations.
As reported by Korean news outlet Dailian, this model would represent Samsung’s first trifold phone, following similar efforts previously tested by Huawei. The company has explored multiple folding designs in the past, but a dual-hinge setup could offer even greater versatility, allowing the device to function as both a phone and a tablet.
Foldable devices have often faced criticism for visible creases near the hinge, which detract from the visual experience despite offering larger screens. The reporter covering the event noted that no visible crease could be seen on Samsung’s trifold display—though this may have been due to the protective glass layer or the fact that the showcased unit had never been physically folded.
While Samsung has yet to release technical specifications, some details were visible. The device features front-facing cameras on both the main and external screens. When closed, it sports a 6.5-inch display, which expands to a 10-inch screen when fully unfolded, offering a glimpse into what could be the next evolution in foldable smartphone design.
