Samsung unveils Groundbreaking 5G NTN Modem for Enhanced Mobile Satellite Connectivity
After Apple, Qualcomm, Huawei and MediaTek, now it’s Samsung’s turn to announce its own NTN modem for mobile satellite connection. This 5G NTN modem will not only send and receive SMS (like what Apple offers today with its iPhone 14 Pro), but also images, photos or videos.
This 5G compatible modem chip allows bidirectional communication (upload and download) and will be integrated into a next generation of Exynos processors. Samsung had promised the imminent arrival of this technology earlier this month of February and was therefore quick to keep its word. Samsung already has its own 5G NTN modem
Samsung says its technology will be able to “bring connectivity to regions that were previously inaccessible by terrestrial networks, whether over mountains, deserts or in the middle of the ocean”. The South Korean giant goes even further and plans to integrate this chip into “urban air mobility vehicles (UAM), such as unmanned aircraft and flying cars”.
