Samsung Unveils Upgraded Bixby: The Intelligent AI Assistant Gets Even Smarter
Samsung Electronics announced yesterday several improvements to its voice assistant, Bixby, whose implementation aims to improve the user experience, as well as the performance and capabilities of both the voice assistant and the entire platform. The improvements range from a greater understanding of the language to various possibilities for customizing the user experience.
YoungJip Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Artificial Intelligence Team in Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics announced the Bixby update with the following statement: When Samsung launched Bixby as a voice assistant, it was part of a vision to create a human-machine interface that made life easier and could progress over time with Samsung Galaxy’s innovation. Today we’re rolling out updates to create a smarter interface that’s proactive and adaptive, giving people more control over their mobile experience.
As mentioned at the beginning, the new Bixby update introduces several possibilities to customize the user experience, including Bixby Text Call (currently available in English only), the feature that allows users to answer a phone call by typing a text message text, that the assistant will read to the caller.
Furthermore, thanks to the Bixby Custom Voice Creator, users have the possibility of customizing the voice with which Bixby will read the messages, in fact, it is possible to record different phrases that the assistant will analyze, and process later, to create a generated copy by artificial intelligence with your voice and tone. That assistant-generated voice should eventually be compatible with other Samsung apps, but for now that functionality is limited to the Korean language. The brand’s voice assistant now also allows you to customize the wake-up word, which can be replaced with a phrase of your choice.
Bixby also receives several improvements regarding integration with other Samsung services, and it is possible to actually start playing music according to the type of exercise in Samsung Health or save an event in Calendar. Furthermore, the assistant is now better able to understand the intent and process follow-up requests by understanding the context, this means that it is possible, for example, to start a workout in Samsung Health and later ask the assistant to play the most suitable music for that exercise type with the appropriate command “Play music for this workout”.
Bixby also receives functionality that allows you to perform certain operations without the need to have an active internet connection, and it is now possible to set a timer, take a screenshot or turn on the flashlight even when the device is offline. Finally, thanks to the innovative technology of Galaxy devices, Bixby receives greater integration with artificial intelligence, thanks to which it is able to improve language recognition and advanced voice dictation function.
