Single Medical Test that will Detect 4 Types of Cancer in Women

A Unique Medical Test is being Developed by UK Scientists that will help in detecting 4 Types of Cancer in Women simultaneously.

World Cancer Day is celebrated on 4 February. On this event, it is important to know what new discoveries are being made by Scientists around the World to fight this disease. In a recent report Published in the Journal Nature, British Scientists have given preliminary results of a unique Discovery. They are developing a test especially for women, with the help of which 4 types of cancer can be screened at the same time.

Which 4 Cancers will be detected through the Test?

  1. Ovarian Cancer is one of the gynecological cancers that causes the highest number of deaths in the world. In 75% of cases, ovarian cancer is detected in its late stage, but by then the tumor has spread.
  2. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women. Breast cancer accounts for 27% of the total cancer cases in women in India. Due to lack of awareness, its cases are continuously increasing. Its symptoms are also being found in girls under the age of some time.
  3. Every minute around the world, a woman is diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. Most of its cases are in China and India. WHO aims to reduce new cases of cervical cancer by 40% and reduce 5 lakh deaths by 2050.
  4. Endometrial Cancer begins to form in the uterus of women. Cancer in the lining of the uterus is called uterine cancer or endometrial cancer. Mostly women over the age of 55 have this disease. But nowadays the problem of hormone imbalance has increased even in younger women, in such a situation, its cases have started appearing even at the age of 30-35 years.

How will this Test Work?

The new cancer test will examine the cells removed from the woman’s vagina.
The new cancer test will examine the cells removed from the woman’s vagina.
The name of this test is Woman Cancer Risk Identification Test (WID test). This will check the DNA of the cells found from the Pap smear test. Let us tell you that in the Pap smear test, some cells are collected by inserting an instrument into the woman’s vagina. Cancer cells are then identified from them. This is a method of screening for cervical cancer.

Scientists believe that the WID test will also be able to check for ovarian, endometrial and breast cancer from these samples.

What does Research say?

Current cancer tests, such as blood tests and ultrasounds, do not detect cancer early in the body.

Scientists conducted research on about 2,000 women in 15 centers in Europe. They were divided into 3 categories. The first category of women had breast and ovarian cancer, the second was at risk of developing these cancers and the third was completely healthy. In the research, the cervical cells of all these women were examined with the help of WID test.

The WID test analyzed the DNA of women. This revealed his genetic cancer history. This test is very beneficial for people who may be at risk of cancer in the future.

According to the researchers, existing cancer tests – such as blood tests and ultrasound – do not detect ovarian and endometrial cancer early. By the time they find out, it is too late. As a result, patients do not get timely treatment. In such a situation, the WID test can prove to be an effective weapon for women in fighting cancer.
