The First Hospital in the Metaverse

Once explored for the worlds of entertainment and recreation, the metaverse according to Simango will provide a more immersive, collaborative and interactive learning experience for healthcare professionals.

Imagine a completely virtual healthcare establishment that allows avatars to be immersed in situation to train in its different areas such as the operating room, the patient’s room, the intensive care unit, or even the resuscitation. This first hospital in the metaverse (or metaverse) is the result of the inventiveness, even the flair of a  startup, Simango, as this  industry is struggling for the moment to keep its promises while all the giants of the digital like Microsoft, Apple or Facebook, which moreover, a strong sign, is now called Meta… more widespread because yesterday’s geeks have become today’s adults.

In any case, Simango has a clear and ambitious objective: to create an even more successful learning experience thanks to a digital, immersive, collaborative and interactive twin. The startup sees enormous potential in this to exploit the knowledge and skills acquired in a parallel virtual world, then transpose them into a very real professional universe. Its “Learning Metasystem” will also use tech proven by the world of video games, a pioneer in the field.  The avatar concept, which involves the user more, but also the multiplayer aspect with the possibility of synchronous communication which has proven itself in the world of gaming will enrich e-learning.

Digital certificates to validate training

Another innovation to give even more credit to these learnings in the metaverse: digital certificates in the blockchain. Designed according to the NFT model, open-badges or digital badges will provide training with validity and unity of value on the type of knowledge acquired. According to the director of Simango, Guillaume Maquinay, “the metaverse of training must have its own currency of knowledge. We will not issue a training certificate, we will issue a digital good that will have real value for the institution or the individual who will receive them”.

An already proven know-how

The start-up relies on an already proven know-how. At the end of December 2021, after three years of creation, almost 100,000 learners were able to benefit from virtual reality training modules. The 25 scenarios already available follow a training path based on a health establishment in which it is possible to move around and choose the most suitable module. Among them, mobile training to learn the gestures and protocols related to nasopharyngeal samples and antigenic tests, or even the discovery of a virtual reality resuscitation service co-built with the Vivalto group.

Simango becomes Metasimango

“The foundations are ready, the whole challenge of the R&D center is to create connections between all these spaces in 2022, to form a single universe, a virtual health establishment, in which learners will be able to move around and explore the different areas for training,” explains Vincent-Dozhwal Bagot. To do this, the startup is launching an intermediate fundraiser of 3 to 5 million euros, changing its name to Metasimango and setting itself a three-year deadline to deliver a complete scalable training experience based on the principles of the metaverse. The first deliverables of the Learning Metasystem will arrive at the start of the school year in September 2022.
