According to David Mahdi, chief identity officer at Transmit Security, traditional consumer identity platforms are already under strain as digital usage expands across apps, websites, and multiple channels. People expect quick, low-friction logins, yet many companies still rely on outdated, cumbersome authentication processes that disrupt the customer experience.
Mahdi believes AI browsers will intensify these pressures because they allow instant creation of purpose-built agents directly inside tools consumers already use. This transformation, he warns, will arrive faster than many security teams anticipate. He describes it as a kind of “Trojan horse,” noting that many organizations don’t yet grasp the scale of change on the way.
In a conversation with Information Security Media Group at the Gartner Identity and Access Management Summit, Mahdi also touched on:
- identity as a central part of brand experience
- the limits of current customer identity and access management in high-traffic environments
- how companies should prepare for AI agent - driven customer interactions
Mahdi has worked with major enterprises on digital transformation initiatives covering identity, zero trust, fraud prevention, forensics, IAM, IoT security, and early blockchain projects. He previously served as a Gartner research vice president and helped establish the emerging machine identity management space.
