Windows 11 Update Woes Persist: KB5022303 & KB5022360 Installation Issues Loom

As revealed on the Feedback Hub, Windows 11 updates are not installing for some users, and it appears to be an issue that has plagued the operating system for months. The latest issue is related to KB5022303, the mandatory and essential security update for Windows 11 users, which is failing to install and mysterious error messages appear, such as 0x800f0831. This bug also affects the installation of KB5022360, which is the latest optional operating system update.

What is concerning is that similar Windows Update issues have been reported in the past December, November, October, September and even August. In the worst cases, PCs go into a reboot loop, but this problem doesn’t seem to be widespread. These flaws have been evident for some time, and Microsoft has had issues with updates regularly failing for some users.
Windows Update continues to give Microsoft headaches

There is a post on the Feedback Hub that is 5 months old (here) that highlights issues with the Windows 11 update installation process. The post is tagged “The cumulative update I am trying to install on Windows 11 failed with error 0x80073701 ”, and several users have confirmed similar issues in the comments.

This publication has however been updated with a note informing that the problem is being investigated, but we do not have details on the matter. While these strange errors can be annoying, it’s worth noting that they hit Windows 10 installs a long time ago. It continues to be an issue in Windows 10 and the company has been struggling to fix it.

As part of its efforts to fix the Windows Update issues, Microsoft also started bundling SSU (servicing stack updates) with the monthly cumulative update, but that approach didn’t work either.
