World’s Fastest E-Aircraft: Rolls-Royce’s ‘Spirit of Innovation’
Rolls-Royce’s e-aircraft has set a new record. The company’s all-electric ‘Spirit of Innovation’ aircraft is officially the world’s fastest all-electric aircraft. It has set two new world records, which have now been confirmed. This aircraft managed to fly at a speed of 555.9kmph for a distance of 3 kms.
With this aircraft, the company has also broken the record held by Siemens e-Aircraft Xtra 330 LE Aerobatic. This Siemens e-aircraft flew at a speed of 231.04kmph in 2017.
The Maximum Speed of the E-Aircraft is 623kmph
Both records have been officially verified by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the World Air Sports Federation. Which controls and certifies world aeronautical and astronautical records. The maximum speed of this aircraft was 623kmph during the record breaking performance. Due to this speed, it was able to become the fastest flying e-aircraft in the world.
This Rolls-Royce aircraft flew at a speed of 532.1kmph for 15 kilometers at the aircraft testing site of the British Ministry of Defense at Boscombe Down. The special thing is that it also made a record of reaching a height of 3000 meters in the shortest time.
500hp Power Motor
During its record-breaking flights, this electric aircraft used a 400kW electric motor. This motor produces power up to 500hp. In addition to the test pilot on board the aircraft, the company’s Director of Flight Operations Phil O’Dell was also present during this record flight.
For this record, Rolls-Royce partnered with aviation energy storage specialist YASA. The company said that the advanced battery and propulsion technology developed for this program can be used extensively in the advanced air mobility market.
