YouTube Shorts grows 67% in just one year

Youtube Shorts are growing in popularity, so much so that the number of daily views has gone from 30 billion in January 2022 to 50 billion today. That means an increase of 67% in just one year.

Just by itself, 50 billion views per day of YouTube Shorts, that is, these small vertical videos that copy TikTok, may seem like a significant number, not least because there has been a notable increase in the space of one year. But the service still lags far behind its competitors.

In October, for example, Meta revealed that Reels on Instagram and Facebook (which are also vertical videos) were racking up 140 billion views every day. Like other platforms, YouTube encouraged users to watch the Shorts. In November, the company proposed watching this type of video on a television. On the other hand, YouTube had revealed last year, 1.5 billion users who are connected with their accounts and who watch Shorts every month. In turn, TikTok revealed in 2021 that it has more than one billion users and Instagram has two billion users, but the group did not specify how many of them watch Reels.

The latest innovation has been in effect since February 1st and allows content creators to earn income through their Shorts. This could inspire more creators to produce original content for the platform. Last November, the video platform also began testing purchasing and affiliate marketing features with Shorts.
