History of the Public Education System

In 1821, the first public high school was established in Boston, the U.S. Horace Mann, who became the secretary of education for Massachusetts in 1837, was important in creating the extensive public school system. One of the strongest advocates of public schools in the United States was a Massachusetts native named Horace Mann.
