OARS Grand Canyon

In 1969, OARS became the first exclusively, non-motorized rafting company authorized by the National Park Service to run trips on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. In 1987, Grand Canyon Dories founder and conservationist, Martin Litton, passed the reins to OARS founder, George Wendt, so that he could carry on the dory legacy. Today, OARS & Grand Canyon Dories maintain an ongoing commitment to conservation and responsible travel through unequaled access to more rivers by raft or dory.

OARS is a second-generation family-owned and operated rafting outfitter based in Angels Camp, CA. Founded in 1969 as the first non-motorized rafting outfitter on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon, our roots have always been in California where late OARS founder, George Wendt, chose to headquarter the company close to popular whitewater rivers like the Stanislaus, Merced, and Tuolumne near Yosemite National Park, which we still operate on today.

OARS Rogue River Rafting

OARS is one of the most established outfitters in Oregon—we've been guiding first-class rafting trips on the Rogue River since 1969 and our guests often comment that their Rogue River experience with OARS was “one of the best vacations ever.” We offer a variety of ways to experience the Rogue River: in your choice of a raft, a dory or an inflatable kayak; a multi-day hiking trip along the Rogue River Trail with raft support or Rowing Clinic with river rowing instruction.
