Aire
noun
Origin
Possibly from Proto-Brythonic; from Proto-Celtic *is- (from Proto-Indo-European *h₁eysh₂- (“to strengthen”)) + *-arā-. However, Old Norse eyjar (“islands”) has also been suggested.
