Ashtoreth

ash·to·reth

uncommon

noun

Origin

Borrowed from Hebrew עַשְׁתֹּרֶת (‘aštōreṯ), a qere perpetuum of the second syllable of עַשְׁתָּרְת (‘aštārṯ, “Astarte”) through the insertion of the vowels from בֹּשֶׁת (bōšeṯ, “abomination”).
