Lithuania

lit·hua·nia

UK/ˌlɪθ.juˈeɪ.ni.ə/ US/ˌlɪð.juˈeɪ.ni.ə/ uncommon

noun

Origin

From Medieval Latin Līthuānia f, from Proto-Slavic *Litъva f, from Old Lithuanian Lietuva f; compare the Early Modern synonym Lettow (from Middle English Lettowe). It has been speculated that the name comes from the rivulet Lietauka, although archeological evidence does not corroborate this hypothesis.
