In this season we consume different types of drinks to quench our thirst and stay fresh. We think these things are hydrating our body, but sometimes the opposite can happen.
In fact, some drinks contain ingredients that can cause frequent urination. The more you drink them, the greater the risk of dehydration.
Symptoms of Dehydration

According to research, drinking cold carbonated drinks increases thirst even more.
Coffee, tea and soda contain a chemical called caffeine. This chemical stimulates the nervous system, due to which the production of urine can increase. However, research on this is mixed.
In a research done on 72 people, it was found that coffee, tea and soda do not cause much urination in the short term. But in another research done on 10 people, it was found that by consuming these drinks in excess quantity, the production of urine is more.
Another study found that drinking cold carbonated drinks to quench thirst increases thirst.
Alcohol can disturb the fluid balance of the body.
Alcohol like beer, wine, liquor can disturb the fluid balance of the body. Alcohol lowers the level of a hormone called vasopressin that regulates urination.
A small study of 11 men found that drinking 5% alcoholic beer after exercise increased urine production. It’s even more so than a sports drink.
Talking about energy drinks, they also increase the risk of dehydration. They also have caffeine content. Also, some energy drinks contain a compound called taurine, which can increase urine output. It is added to these drinks to improve athletic performance.
How to avoid dehydration?
To avoid dehydration in summer, drink more and more water.
Drink fluids like water, coconut water, juices and soups instead of tea, coffee, energy drinks, soda and alcohol. Apart from this, do not drink drinks like soda only, drink more and more water with it.
According to most guidelines, women should consume 2.7 liters of fluid and men should consume 3.7 liters of fluid daily. This includes both food and drink.
