Whatever your design project, here a number of design tips to help you create your ideal home décor. From choosing the floor to painting the walls, tips are not just about functionality but also about creating an elegant environment. You will never have so much fun getting your hands dirty! To enjoy!
1 – Take your room measurements
Take your room measurements and mark them on a plan. Next, add shapes cut out to scale from your furniture to find its ideal location in the room. This will help you determine how people will move or circulate in the room.
2 – Identify the source of natural light
Identify where the best natural lighting is in the room, from doors or windows, to decide where to place artificial lighting.
3 – Plan your interior design
You should plan your interior design around objects, furniture, or even floor and wall coverings. Choose these elements according to the style that inspires your choice of decoration.
4 – Decide the colors you want to use
Next, it is better to decide what colors you want to use in the room. In general, it is preferable to limit yourself to three. You can then experiment with using and adapting other colors and décor elements; see next point
5 – Make a collage with the chosen colors
Gather around you a mosaic of materials in these colors to help you imagine yourself in this future interior decoration. Remember to take into account the furniture, curtains, walls, floors and doors … Having a couple of photos of your room will help you think about the whole. That way you can visualize how the colors and tones will look in the space.
6 – Start with the walls
Whether you decide on paint or wallpaper, your walls are sure to create the main color in the room. You can also leave them blank or neutral gray to highlight certain colors used elsewhere and with accessories. You may have to be careful not to accentuate them too much as they could attract too much attention if they are not sufficiently balanced by other hues. If you go for a particular color, go for a matte finish, which can better hide small flaws. If you want your room to look bigger, go for bright or light colors. Create a contrast between the walls and a white ceiling to add volume. You can opt for a deeper effect, for example creating a color contrast on the walls opposite the natural lighting.
7 – Consider the flooring
Now is the time to consider FLOOR. In your tile of samples, choose the material you want to cover your floor. Vinyl, laminate, and wood come in a wide range of different shades and patterns for easy selection. Whatever design or texture you are looking for, try to choose a floor covering that contrasts a bit with your walls, for example two shades lighter or darker. Don’t forget to think about how natural light interacts with your floor. Varnished or matte floors will create quite different effects.
If you opt for parquet, be sure to place the boards parallel to the dominant light. However, if your room is long, you can also decide to place them in a longitudinal direction, parallel to the longest side of the room.
8 – Furniture
Once you’ve created the overall décor, lay out your furniture. Feel free to try different combinations to see what works. Complete the interior design with objects and accessories. Be careful not to clutter the space with too many, and most of all, think about color balance. For example, a picture and a rug can create that extra 5% of color to add character to a room. Don’t forget that curtains are an important visual dressing room. Its appearance is constant, because fabric does not capture light in the same way as other materials. They may even offer you the ability to vary your lighting by using nets or curtain clamps.
9 – The importance of light
Lighting plays a very important role in the room: it models the space at night and creates a special atmosphere in the space. Since pendant lights tend to visually narrow the room, prioritize them where there are fewer sources of natural light. Don’t forget to plan enough outlets. When installing lighting, experiment to vary the light around the room. You can add dimmer switches that allow you to adjust the lighting to create different moods according to your mood.
