To use Deep Research, users can visit perplexity.ai, select the option from the chat interface, and enter their query. The AI then analyzes relevant sources, refines its approach, and compiles a report within minutes. The final output can be downloaded as a PDF or shared as a dedicated Perplexity page.
In a benchmark test known as Humanity’s Last Exam, which assesses AI reasoning abilities, Perplexity’s Deep Research performed just behind OpenAI’s equivalent tool, which had an accuracy rate of 26.6%. Other models, such as DeepSeek R1, Gemini, and Grok-2, trailed significantly with lower scores.
At launch, Deep Research will be free for all users logged in via the web, with plans to expand access to iOS, Android, and Mac. However, only Pro subscribers will receive unlimited usage, while free users will face daily limitations.
