Windows 11: Latest update boosts Gaming performance

If your computer is running Windows 11, you must have received KB5028185 on the 11th of July, which should make your life easier with its new features. For example, the clock now shows the seconds, navigation by tabs and keyboard shortcuts in the file explorer, a new page to manage USB4 devices… it’s a long list.

Less prominently, this update also offers a function to greatly improve gaming performance. More specifically, she wants to reduce the latency, and slowdowns, that some players may experience during a game.

To achieve this, Windows 11 will be interested… in your mouse. The report rate is the parameter that will determine the responsiveness of a mouse. It is measured in Hertz (Hz) and indicates how often the device will transmit its information to the PC. The higher it is, the faster the information is sent, and the less time there is between a mouse action and its effect on the screen.

12 years ago, a mouse’s report rate was 125Hz by default, but today, the default is at 1000Hz, or even much higher, depending on the model. But the higher the rate, the more resources the process consumes, which explains the latency observed in games, not to mention the management of a possible voice chat or a live broadcast on Twitch or YouTube. The update optimizes the sending of information by the mouse to ease the set.
KB5028185 Increases Gaming Performance in Windows 11

Microsoft takes the example of a Surface Laptop Studio gaming session with a mouse set to 1000Hz. Before the update, bumps were visible to the naked eye. Since then, the experience has remained uneventful. This unseen new feature will undoubtedly delight fans of games where responsiveness is the key to victory.

However, that doesn’t make us forget that the KB5028185 update arrived with a lot of annoying bugs in Windows 11, which for now have not yet been fixed.
