In 1994, Corney and Barrow’s operations in Scotland underwent a significant transformation through a merger with Whighams of Ayr, one of the UK’s oldest wine merchants. This partnership not only enhanced Corney and Barrow's presence in the region but also brought together centuries of expertise in the wine industry. Whighams, established on Academy Street in Ayr, brought with it the historical 1766 cellars. These cellars were specifically constructed to store imported wines, ports, and sherries brought from across Europe. Designed with the express purpose of maintaining optimal conditions for wine storage, these cellars have withstood the test of time and continue to serve not only as functional storage spaces for long-term customer use but also as an impressive venue for wine tastings and events.
