Short Message Service, commonly referred to as SMS messaging or Text messaging, was discovered on 3 December 1992 when the very first Bulk SMS was sent by Neil Papworth, a 22-year-old communications engineer working in the United Kingdom. The SMS was sent from a pc (phones did not have keyboards in those days) and it simply said “Merry Christmas” Today (almost 23 years later) companies and individuals all over the world send Bulk SMS all day everyday! It has become one of the most powerful and effective tools for communication available. Bulk SMS (sent from a pc or via API or SMPP) is the distribution of a single message to multiple mobile phone handsets simultaneously.
