Reprogramming the amygdala, a portion of the brain responsible for fear responses that trigger anxiety and stress, is known as amygdala retraining. To alter how fear is perceived in the cerebral cortex, people use amygdala retraining techniques - meditation, visualization, or conscious thought patterns by creating new memories that do not trigger physical signs of stress.
