C.A. Balan has good proficiency in Sanskrit. He was sentenced to death for a crime not committed by him. He was in solitary confinement for around a year as a prisoner awaiting execution. As a result of statewide demonstrations/agitations against his death penalty, his death sentence was commuted to life sentence. After suffering for around 13 years of imprisonment, C.A. Balan was released and come out in 1963. With his imprisonment experience, he wrote a novel ‘Thookku mara nizhalil’ that secured everlasting place in the lakhs of its readers. After this, he made several literary works which had brought him name and fame. People from ordinary walks of life acknowledged comrade C.A. Balan, as a ‘contributor to literature’. The life story of C.A. Balan being a communist is by itself like a epic that has confronted incredible situations, sudden twists and unbelievable changes.
