By 1998, Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd became the first Canadian company to import fresh mushrooms from China via ocean shipment, which led to an expansion of their distribution network across Canada and into the U.S. In 2001, the company opened an office in China, further enhancing their supplier relationships and broadening their product range, which now includes fruits and vegetables.
