Orthodontics is a subspecialty of dentistry that addresses malocclusion, a dental disorder in which the teeth aren't in the correct position when the jaw is closed. This problem is treated by moving the teeth into the correct positions. It corrects abnormalities in both the face and the jaw. If your teeth & jaw arches are not properly aligned, it can impair your ability to speak effectively, chew food properly, and bite down on things.
