Deciding to start couples therapy can be difficult, especially if only one partner is on board. In fact, we recommend only starting couples therapy if both partners are committed and ready to change. Successful couples therapy requires a mutual decision to leave behind an old relationship that’s not working and build something new together. Even the strongest couples can find themselves drifting apart, feeling disconnected, or struggling to communicate. A successful lifelong partnership will often go through several relationship eras as partners change and evolve and life circumstances happen. The important thing is how you navigate the potential breaking points and transform them into something new.
