A partner visa is for people who wish to reside in Australia and are in a genuine and ongoing relationship with a spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. A de facto partner relationship is a relationship where two people, who may be of the same or different sex, live together on a genuine domestic basis but are not married. A married relationship is legally recognised under Australian law, including foreign marriages, and can also be between partners of the same or different sex.
