Located in the DFW metro area, Arlington, Texas is one of the largest cities in both the state and the nation. Arlingtons history is similar to a lot of the towns that sprung up around the westward expansion of the U.S. railroad system. It was founded in the late 1800s and the increased access, both east and west, allowed it to become a public trading post and then a popular farming area. During the 1950s, Arlington experienced a period of dramatic growth and development, largely due to the increased influence of and development of the automotive and aerospace industries in the area during that time.
