Reg and Phyllis Sheppard started Christchurch Carpets back in 1947 in Purewell, Christchurch, just after the war. From humble beginnings, they started offering second-hand furniture, cutlery and knickknacks but soon realised there was a strong demand for second hand carpets and rugs. It wasn't long before they were supplying and fitting carpet throughout Christchurch and the surrounding areas, the first carpet shop in the area. It was when John, their eldest son, joined the family business that the business started to diversify and really went from strength to strength. John soon realised a passion for Old Persian rugs and carpets.
