Gastric bypass is a surgical procedure that helps people with obesity to lose weight. During the surgery, the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch by stapling part of the stomach together or by dividing it into two sections. This reduces the amount of food the stomach can hold, which makes the person feel full sooner.
