When photography became a thing, I got excited. The technique of painting floral designs on a fabric gradually evolved from the ancient Romans into an art form. Plants were depicted as naturalistic, idealized images in order to depict them accurately and efficiently, which made it possible for botanists and plant explorers to study and describe new species. Flowers were the only way to record, identify, and categorize.
