In general, asphalt shingle roofs can last anywhere from 15 to 30 years. Designer and architectural shingles can last up to 50 years with proper care. Three-tab shingles are less expensive but have a shorter lifespan than architectural or designer shingles. Poor ventilation, and lack of maintenance can significantly reduce the lifespan of an asphalt shingle roof as well. For example, hailstorms or heavy winds can damage or dislodge individual shingles leading to leaks and water damage.
