Fibroids, also known as uterine leiomyomas, are non-cancerous tumors arising from the myometrium (smooth muscle layer) of the uterus. Other names for these tumors include fibromyomas, fibromas, myofibromas, and myomas.

It’s understandable that many uterine and ovarian conditions and their symptoms get mixed up or confused. Generally speaking, tumors and cysts are different in the fact that tumors are firm and compact, whereas cysts are fluid-filled.
