World Obesity Day Today: Obesity can become a New Epidemic in Children 

Obesity among children is increasing rapidly. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 38 million children under the age of 5 are obese in the world.  Earlier this problem was only in high income countries like America, now it has reached middle and low income countries also.

Scientists say that child obesity may soon turn into an epidemic. According to a research published in the Pediatric Obesity Journal, the amount of fat was found to be high in the children involved in the research. Also, there was a constriction in the veins of his heart, due to which the blood flow is irregular. Cases of type 2 diabetes in children are already increasing.

Causes of Obesity in Children
In just one year of the corona epidemic, obesity among children increased by 2%. During the lockdown, the children stayed away from physical activity. In addition, most of his time was spent in front of the phone or computer. However, the problem of obesity in children already remains. The credit for this goes to increasing technology, changes in sleep and high cholesterol junk food.

It is necessary to give a balanced diet to children to avoid obesity.
Childhood obesity increases the risk of cancer, disability in the future
According to a 2018 study in the Lancet journal, 50% of Obese children under the age of 5 come from Asia alone. Also, it has been revealed in the Pediatric Obesity Journal that if there is more fat in the intestines, then there is pressure on the heart of children. Due to this there is a possibility of incidents like heart attack in childhood.

Premature brain, kidney, bone and liver diseases are more likely to occur in children with type-2 diabetes. Childhood obesity also increases the risk of cancer, early death and disability in the future.

Scientists say that there is no instant cure for this problem. The increasing obesity among children is a public health crisis, which needs to be brought in the discussions at the world level.

How to prevent obesity in children?
It is important to give nutritious and balanced diet to children. Tell them the disadvantages of junk food and soft drinks. Make physical activity a part of their lifestyle. Teach them to build positive and good relationships. Stop using technology for unnecessary things. Encourage children to wake up and go to sleep on time.
