Instagram implements new measures aimed at protecting the Teenagers
Often accused of doing nothing in the mental protection of its users, especially the younger ones, Instagram announced new measures to protect them a little better.
On its official blog, the social network indicates that those under 16 years old who register on Instagram will now, by default, have access to less content considered sensitive by the platform.
In addition, users over 16 years of age will also receive a message advising them to change this setting so that they too can benefit from this safer experience. At any time, you can access Instagram’s options to return to a default display of content.
With the filtering option enabled, users will no longer see certain sensitive content such as firearms or drugs. But that only acts on the platform-recommended content in the search and exploration interfaces, hashtag pages, Reels, main thread, and suggested accounts. This means that sensitive content posted by followed accounts continues to be displayed.
Instagram tries to keep younger users away from unwanted content
In addition, Instagram announces testing “a new way to encourage teens to update their security and privacy settings”. Thus, young users will receive messages from the application, which will encourage them to check their settings in that area.
Options to control who can share your content, who can message and contact them, what content they can see and how they can manage their time on Instagram will be highlighted by the service.
